I would Like to send my public support to David Hattner regarding his
daring, brave and realistic comments regarding the problems with the
Band.

In addition to the problems David mentioned, we are now discussing band
directors changing the instruments of choice for the students.

Does it ever end?

I too received the majority of my music performance education performing
in bands at a fine university. I got my job as clarinetist in the Tulsa
Phil, having performed so few orchestral pieces I could count them all
in both hands. six years out of college I still am playing most of my
music for the first time. Although, I feel I have gained valuable
experience on the job, I think everyone would benefit with a better
music education. I would have cherished the opportunity to have
earned even the smallest amount of orchestral experience during my
bachelors and masters years.

My hat goes off to you Dave
