To Cathleen:

I know just how you feel. This is my tenth year playing clarinet and
I just found out I was tonguing wrong. Well, that set me back a
while but I found a great excercise that I find really helps.

Start on second space A, 2 beats to the bar, first beat sixteenths and the
second beat a quarter. Next bar go to G, down to low E. Then go to
long B and go up to super C. Start on about MM 104 and go until you
can't keep up with the metronome anymore. Then put a bar rest
inbetween each bar and continue on from there until you can't keep
up. Then the next day, start at the same tempo, and do the same. If
you got further than the day before, the third day start at a notch
higher. I have found this excercise to be amazing in re - developing
my tongueing. But definitely take stock in how you are tonguing. I
found that I wasn't using the tip of my tongue, which really slowed
me down.

Good luck to you, and if you need any clarification on this excercise
(and chances are I didn't explain it too well) please feel free to
talk to me!
