David,

Thanks for the tip on the Goodman recordings. I have copies of
most small-group recordings made by Goodman, which I collected as a
teen-ager in the 1940s when I lived in New York City. My problem with
these recordings has been that they're all 10-inch 78-rpm shellac
discs, and my old 78-rpm record player is inoperative. Perhaps the
new CDs will solve part of my problem of being unable to demonstrate
these records to my kids, who are jazz lovers like me.

From your description, I would guess the CDs are comprised of
some of Goodman's albums, such as the recordings with Cootie Williams (and
I suspect Georgie Auld [tenor sax]). I'd be curious to know whether his
hit singles are also on CDs. Examples are recordings he made with Billie
Holliday, Roy Eldridge, and Ben Webster, and others made under the
pseudonym, "Shoeless Joe Jackson." Two other favorites I'd like to
replace on CD are "The World is Waiting for the Sunrise" with Mel Powell
and Gene Krupa, and "Running Wild" with (I think) Teddy Wilson, Krupa,
and Lionel Hampton.

Do you know offhand whether any of those are on the CDs?

Thanks again for the information.

Connie
