I dipped into a thread about Perier and technical etudes and it made me
think of how I respond to different etude books. I spend alot of time on
the opposite side of the room from Kells "Interpretive Studies"---because
of the overpowering shadow of Kell himself??? Jean-Jean (of whom I have
no reports, good or bad) I can open to anything (well, it seems like!)
and lose a happy half hour playing. Much of Baermann (described by Hite
in the preface to a collection of B. studies he edited as a sort of
"break" from Rose) I find intimidating. Or, at any rate, frustrating.
Rose comes much easier.
