About cracking:

Another way to help your instrument adust to changes in temp is to just open
your case (I leave the clarinet unassembled in the case) in the room whre you
plan on playing ahead of time. I do this before I start to practice. Then
by the time that I have everything all set up, the clarinet has warmed to the
temp of the room. If it is still cold to the touch, I wait a bit longer.
