We are talking about the same mouthpieces. I have the facing "8" I chose
because I play a Morgan 06 and the Vandoren 5RV Lyre. I find the facing,
especially in the light of your remarks, truly lousey!!! I don't know how
to reface a mouthpiece. Playing this one, for the first time in my life I
"felt" the need to [reface it].

It has some nice notes, particularly throat tones, but the higher
clarion---yuck. Have you found the more open tip(s) any better? Does it
sound like a Chedeville?

I'd be glad to hear more details about your refacing job. I'm tempted to
try and manipulate this one myself. My reaction to it is odd. On the one
hand, I find the facing too limiting but like some of the tones alot. I
feel it has the potential to be a good mouthpiece (words like "excellent"
are reserved for my buddy the R. Morgan 06).

Many thanks for your great comments.

I have two which I believe are what you are talking about (I got them form
Weiner in NY and the facings are given as 6, 7 or 8). I think they are
made of good rubber material and are capable of a good sound and
intonation, despite the bore being a bit small. I found the facings on
them to be very bad, but since I was determined to see if they would play
like a Chedeville (that is what is marked on them) I refaced them and
removed the convex roll over in the baffle near the tip rail with fairly
good results. I tried several though and did not find any to be enjoyable
to play "as is" and would not recommend them particularly.
I would be curious if we are talking about the same ones.
