I play Santy Runyon Jazz mouthpiece #5. It is plastic and was only $16.
It had been in the music store for years because the standard ligature
was too large. But an Eb saprono ligature fit great. I would write for a
brochure to Santy Runyon. He's been making mouthpieces for decades. The
mouthpiece I own shows evidence of custom work before shipping. This kind
of attention is a sign of a craftsman. I play tenor sax with aa A.L.
Lelandais (Paris) hard rubber form the late thirties. I found it in the
"junk" mouthpiece draw at a music store. THe Lelandais company, now gone,
used to make reeds too. Neither of these mouthpieces is strident.
Stridence is the price of projection. I would look into some type of
amplification. I use Barcus Berry pickups for this. Get the kind that
requires a hole in the top of the mouthpiece. These are way better then
the ones that attach to the reed. The sax players will like it!(Hopefully).
