My set of B&H (ca 1970) have all leather pads--I never had a sealing problem.
I know of some players who changed the pads and felt the "quality" of the
sound changed--their opinion--can't prove. I do know some work out and
others--for example-a set of Fritz Wurlitzer basset horns arrived in Madison
Wis at the University--the repair tech there had to "wax" them to get them
to seal. I have several leather pads in the lower joint of my newer Selmer
basset and have had no problems. Just my 2cents worth.
