Subj: This is what is going to the ICL on Mar. 1

Last month when I posted what I was donating to the ICL library, I got
frantic letters telling me to post this kind of stuff earlier so that
it can be digested and I can be browbeaten into making copies for people
before it is shipped.

Well, I'll post it earlier (roughly 4 weeks early) but you are going to have
one hell of a job getting me to copy any of this stuff, even though some of
it will drive basset horn players right out of their minds!! (That is one
way to get rid of the competition. You make them crazy with jealosy and
then they wind up in a room in the funny farm leaving all the work for you.)

But the greatest treasure will not be donated to the ICL. I think I'll hang
on to this and I can be browbeaten to make copies for a handsome fee of
thousands of dollars per copy.

The work is a companion piece for the Gran Partitta of Mozart in that it
is for exactly the same instrumentation; i.e. 12 wind instruments and a
string bass. It is an arrangement made for the Netherlands Wind Ensemble
of Mozart's Musical Clock Adagio by Marius Flothuis and was created as
an encore piece for the NWE. Besides myself, I know of no other copies
that they permitted to be made and the only reason I got a copy was because
I promised them a set of performance parts to the new NMA edition of the
Gran Partitta when it was printed in 1979. They had no choice. It was
either my parts or they had to copy them out themselves.

They made no stipulation that I was not permitted to copy the arrangement
and neither did Flothuis. I asked him.

I want your wives, your children, and your Reese's peanut butter cups.
Dave Bourque, I want both of your wives and a lifetime subscription to
the Toronto Wife Swapping Club Bulletin.

Composer Title Instrumentation

Bach/Weait Post Rider's Fugue Octet: 2/2/2/2
Baermann, Heinrich Quintet in E-flat Clarinet/str.quartet (+2 opt hns)
(This quintet contains the infamous "Wagner Adagio")

Beerhalter, Alois Var. on German song Basset horn and piano
Beethoven Trio Oboe/basset/piano (Prometheus)
(Anyone who has played the basset horn solo in Beethoven's Prometheus
ballet will understand how difficult it is to get clean underwear for the
next month or so after playing this work. This is that famous solo arranged
for basset/oboe/and piano.)

Beethoven/Rose Trio Op. 55 2 clars./basset horn
(The 2 oboe/English horn trio of Beethoven - an original work. This printing
comes from around 1915 and it is for clars. and basset horn. It was the
property of the great French clarinetist [whose name has run right out of
my head] who was Jerry Pierce's teacher to whom it was given and who gave it
to me. He probably also made another copy to give to the ICS library so now
there will be 2.)

DiDomenica, Robert Quintet Clarinet/str. quartet
Dondeyne, Desire 9 Duos 2 clarinets (4 of 9 volumes)
Donizetti Tibi soli peccavi Sopr./bassethorn/orch. (piano)
(Originally with basset horn, this publication was for clarinet only. I
recreated the basset horn part myself. It is not dissimilar stylisitically
to "Totus In Corde Lanqueo" and is a religious work.)

Donizetti/Rummel Fantasy on Lucia Basset horn and piano
(If you don't have 15 fingers on each hand, forget it.)

Druzecky, Jiri Partita in C Octet: 2/2/2/2
Fink, Myron Sexet Piano and std. wind quintet
Flothuis, Marius Canzone cl. qtet with basset horn
Handel/Campbell Arriv. Queen Sheba Wind octet: 2/2/2/2
Harvey, Paul Quartet Eb/Bb/basset/bass clar
Haydn Three trios cl., violin and cello
Haydn (?) Divertimento #13 Eb octet: 2/2/2/2
(Haydn? Don't bet on it.)

Heim, Norman Four Nocturnes Basset horn and piano
Hess Quintet Basset/violin/vla/cello/bass
(Big piece. Cost me a fortune. Printed.)

Hodge, Tom Sugar Burlesque Clar./Basset horn/piano
Klebe, Giselher Der dunkle Gedanke Clar. dbling on basset & piano
(Tough!!)

Lane, Richard Trio Clarinet, viola, piano
(Lane wrote a trio for me for clar./basset and piano that I will be donating
at a future time. I gave the world premiere in Brooklyn with Jack
Kreiselman on clarinet in 1964 or so.)

Mahler/Greer Serenade Voice and five wind instruments
Martin, Frank Balade Basset horn & orch. (piano)
(Originally conceived of by Martin as a concerto for tenor sax and orch.
and then later revised by him for basset horn.)

Massenet Pleurez, mes yeux Voice/basset horn/piano (Le Cid)
Mozart From London Notebook Two clars & bsn
Mozart Janissaries March 9 winds and 2 drums
(From the opera "Abduction from the Seraglio)

Mozart K 616(Musical clock) Arr.: 2 fl./2 cl.
Mozart Quintet K. 478 Piano/4 winds (same as K. 452)
(This is an arrangement for the same combination as K. 452 and its source
is the piano quartet, K. 478.)

Mozart/Gobart K. 452 (arrangement) ob/cl/bsn/hn/violin/vla/cl/bass
(Really a remarkable arrangement from ca. 1800. It is the piano quintet
without the piano. Sory of like the Beethoven septet. Copy of the first
edition. Lousy copy, too.)

Mozart/Lancelot Duos Clarinet/basset horn
Novacek, R. Sinfonietta fl/ob/2 cl/2 bsn/2 hrn (2 sets)
(I spent 6 months copying this work out for a performance only to find out
that it was published by McGinnis and Marx. What a putz!)

Pranzer, Joseph Trois duos concert. Two clarinets
Reed, William Four Airs Basset horn and piano
Reinecke, Carl Octet fl/ob/2 cl/2 hn/2 bsn
Roesler, Johann Partita 3 basset horns
(Original work, not an arrangement)

Rolla, Alessandro Concerto Basset horn (piano)
Saint-Saens Caprice/Danish airs Fl/ob/cl and piano
Schubert Salve Regina Voice/clar/piano (alt. 2 clars.)
(The second clarinet is a replacement for the voice part.)

Tausch, Francois Sextet 2 bassets/2 bassoons/2 horns
Triebensee, J Minuet with vars. Octet: 2/2/2/2 (from Don Giovanni)
Uber, David Musicale Clarinet Choir
Verdi/Bellini Two Operatic Fant. Clar. and piano
(I have a love/hate relationship with this kind of music. On one hand I
view it with contempt. On the other hand I am mad about it. What should
I do doctor? Is this an indication that, subconsciously, I want to visit
Yellowstone National Park? Does this mean that I am anal-retentive? Is
anal-retentive spelled with a hyphen?)

Verdi/Drapkin Trios Two clarinets/bassoon
Weait, Christopher Etude and Scherzo Wind quintet
Wilder, Alex Sonata Clar./piano
