i am the proud owner (and yes i did say proud) of an alto clarinet. it is
leblancs top model, about 3 years old, silver keys and all. during high
school, i played it frequently, but since i have come to college, i have
used it once to demonstrate in front of a theory class. my teacher thinks
it is an object of satan. i can think of two solo pieces (there are a few
more) that i have played on it. one was "rigaudon", and the other i can't
recall at the moment.
it is a unique instrument with a sound all its own that can be useful and
somewhat enjoyable when played properly. unfortunately, it is rarely
given a chance.
