On 1-29-96, Martin Arick wrote about a piece for flute, clarinet and piano
by Stravinsky (he thought).... The piece I believe to which he refers is
FOUR WALTZES for flute, clarinet and piano by Dmitry Shostakovich and
arranged by L. Atoumyan, published by Musica Rara.

Randy Miller asks "Has any manufacturer used a wood other than grenadilla
for their horns?" In Luis Rossi's advertisement for his clarinets in THE
CLARINET, Nov/Dec, p 57, it shows clarinets made from African Blackwood
(grenadilla), Costa Rican Cocobolo and Honduran Rosewood. Having tried these
instruments 2-3 years ago at the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium or an ICA
ClarinetFest, I found the different materials to have a great effect on the
tone quality and response. If you ever get a chance to try them, do it.

For a more complete discussion of materials which various makers have used I
would suggest the wonderful standard reference, THE CLARINET by F. Geoffrey
Rendall. In Chapter 2 entitled, Components of the clarinet. materials; wood,
metal, ebonite, he discusses a variety of materials of which clarinet have
been made.

Hope this formation is helpful! CHEERS!
