Hello to all.

I just joined this list yesterday, and I am enjoying it immensely. To let
you know right off, I am a novice. I hadn't played for years until I
recently had my clarinet repadded. The repair fellow said that I had a
good instrument and that it was in excellent shape (don't laugh-I've seen
what you folks play :-] - an old plastic Bundy). I can't believe how
enthusiastic I am about this now. I wish I had been back in school.

With this background in mind, I have a few requests for pointers.
1. My mouthpiece is chipped. Since I have no earthly idea about what is a
good mouthpiece, I am open to suggestions.

2. When I play, it does not sound, I guess the best word, round. I can hear
air blowing. Is this because 1) the reed isn't broken in, 2)my armature(?)
isn't quit correct or strong enough yet, or 3) the chipped mouthpiece?

I thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions.
