Hello Dan: Bet you thought I had abandoned you, but no such luck. I am
like an old dog that has just found a new bone. I won't discard it until
I have given it at least one or two good shakes and your comments raised
enough red flags in my mind that I knew I had found a good bone to
shake. I had
to be out of town for a couple of days and was stranded extra time due
to the caprices of an Iowa winter (you may have heard about it on the
weather news). Then of course upon return home, I needed to move
several (million, billion, trillion, ?) individual snowflakes to even get
in the house.

Now back to the discussion on the Sinfonie Concertante and was or was it
not written by Mozart. I think you missed my point in that I did not
even hint that it was written by Mozart. You indicated that I had a 20th
century mind which I readily admit to but it is as a trained scientist
that I speak (Analytical Chemist). My point is that you may be correct in
your interpretation of authorship, maybe even probably correct, what the
heck, almost certainly are correct in your statements. However, almost
certainly does not constitute absolute certainty. We chemists need
proof, not very good assumptions. My only point of contention was the
absolute, could not ever, ever, ever have been written, etc. that came
through on your discussion.

Your later posts have clarified even more the compelling reasons why
Mozart could or should I say, most probably didn't write this piece, but
I still haven't seen documented irrefutable evidence that proves beyond
all doubt, (unlike the OJ reasonable doubt?) who actually wrote the
piece. Maybe more that one person was involved in the composition. I
surely don't know. "What if" scenarios are part of my thought processes
and so I threw out some brainstorm ideas as possibilities, not as fact or
even as reasonable alternatives, just alternatives to get the thought
processes going.

By the way, if I had a good pot roast recipe, you would be sent a copy
post haste. Enjoy your commentary and learn a lot from the discussions.
As I indicated in my first post, I not a serious student of clarinet. I
am 60 and have picked up the instrument again after a 35 year period when
other things seemed to be more important. Now I just have fun and enjoy
playing in a band at the senior center and also playing clarinet/piano
pieces with my wife who is a much better piano player that I deserve.

Had seriously considered inviting you to breakfast, lunch or dinner during
your odyssey across the USA this summer. If you follow your posted
itinerary and follow I-80 from the Mississippi, you will pass within 200
yards of my home as you go through Iowa City/Coralville. Unfortunatly,
I will be traversing California on my way to Oregon at the time you are
in Iowa.

Keep up the good work and maybe sometime we can agree to disagree again.

Ivan
