Is Buffet's solution really green?

Surely a better solution would be to recycle the instruments that are already
with us.

Excuse my laxity in not consulting the archives but are we not too readily
accepting a manufacturer's solution which keeps them in business. I am sure the
list has historically beaten the wear-out of clarinets to death but I am frankly
shocked that many players believe the useful life of an instrument is rated in
single-digit years.

I personally have a pair of 1939 Boosey & Hawkes instruments which, with the
assistance of a gifted repairer, are still capable of professional use. The
only reason I have for NOT using them is a preference for different acoustic
properties.

Surely a major cause for players to change instruments is pyscholgical. We all
love new toys and it is all too easy to blame our own deficiencies on the tools
we use.

This all my personal opinion but I am sure others will be happy to comment.
