In preparation for donating a large box of music each month to
the ics library, I carefully document exactly what it is I am
donating. The first several donations were some orchestral scores
of no particular special interest to clarinet players, a large number
of bass clarinet orchestral parts, etc.

But now I have begun with the serious stuff of interest to clarinet players.
I thought you might enjoy seeing what it is, not for personal aggrandizement
(I'm not doing it for that but for the tax benefit), but to point out
some genuine rarities that you might not know about. The list below
is what is going for February. It will take about a year doing it this
way, maybe even longer. There is a lot of music involved.

Let me comment on some of the interesting things in this month's shipment.

Composer Title Instrumentation

Backhofen Concertante basset/harp/cello
Bellison Four Jewish Songs Clar./Piano
Berwald, Franz Septet Same as Beethoven septet
A most remarkable work, out of print of many years. Spectacular
chamber music.

Bialas, Gunter Romanza e Danza Wind octet 2/2/2/2
Bowen, York Quintet Bass clar. & str. quartet
(The Bowen quintet is not, as far as I know, published. I had
to copy out the parts by hand and that is what I am donating. It
appears to me to be a one of a kind composition: bass clar. and
string quartet)

Carter, Elliott Canonic Suite Clarinet quartet
Desportes Andante & Allegro Bass clarinet and piano
Dvorak Slavonic Dances Wind octet + bass 2222+1
Fasch, J.F. Sonata Bass clarinet and piano
Finzi, Gerald Concerto Clarinet/piano
Francaix Quartet Ob/fl/bsn/clar
Haydn Divertimento 2 cl 2 hn
Haydn Marsch Sextet: 2ob/2hn/2bsn (score/parts)
Haydn Three Duets Clarinets
Hindemith Quintet Clarinet/string quartet
Wonderful composition including one movement for E-flat clarinet. First
and last movements are the same but backwards!! and for all 5 players.

Hummel Quartet cl/string trio
Excellent, excellent, excellent work

Janacek Mladi Wind quintet + bass clarinet
Jelinek, Hanns Zwolftonwerk Clar. qtet with basset horn
A 12-tone piece for 4 clarinets one of which executes on basset
horn. The piece has no instrumental/stylistic competition

Knezek, Vaclav Partiten 2 clar/2 vla, basso
Krommer Eb conc. for 2 clars Orchestral parts
A full set of first edition orchestral parts is included!!

Kucera, Vaclav Duodramma Bass clar. and piano
Ugliest piece of music I ever played. And tough too!

Marty, Georges 1ere Fantasie Bass clar./piano
Maschayeki, Alireza Neun expressionen Clar and bass clar
Second ugliest piece of music I every played and 12 tone too!

Mihalovici, Marcel Sonate clars in Eb/A/Bass
Spoken of on this list about 2 weeks ago.

Mozart Abduction Suite 2/2/2/2 Wendt
Mozart B-flat string qtet wind quintet
Mozart Don Giovanni Octet 2/2/2/2 (Triebensee)
Mozart Don Giovanni Octet 2/2/2/2
This second DG arrangement is different from the first and I have
no idea who did the arrangement.

Mozart K. 407 (Leeson) Clar. quartet
I went crazy one day and arranged one movement of the horn quintet for
clarinet quartet. It was a mistake.

Mozart Titus Octet: 2/2/2/2 score/parts
Mozart Un baccio di mano Orchestral parts
Mozart/Bellison Suite Clar. quar. with basset horn
Phillips, Gordon Rec. and slow dance b.c. and piano
Playel Rondo Clarinet quartet
Pleyel Quintet in C Piano/4 winds
Ponchielli Quartet Piano and 4 winds
Schwartz, Paul Vienna Baroque Suite Same as Beethoven septet
Contemporary piece but old fashioned in construction and harmony.

Stark, Robert Serenade clar. qtet with basset horn
Stravinsky Elegy for JFK Three clarinets and voice
Sydeman Duo cl (and b.c.) with double bass
Personally I couldn't care less when a b.c. and a double bass play together.

Tomasi, Henri Trois Divertissm'ts Clarinet quartet
Tuthill, Bernard Intermezzo Clar. trio with basset horn
Uhl, Alfred Divertimento Clar. quartet
Vranicky, Antonin Marsche for winds 2cl/2hn/2bsns

Next month the story continues!!
