I agree that the K.297b Sinfonia Concertante presents some odd aspects
relative to other Mozart clarinet literature, and perhaps even relative to
other Mozart works in general. However, I've always felt that there is a
trememdous difference in the writing within the piece itself. Specifically,
the third movement feels out of place with the other two. The first and
second movements "feel" more like Mozart, and seem to me to demonstrate far
more depth than the theme and variations in the 3rd. I've always suspected
that the third movement was either extensively reworked from original
material, or added by someone other than Mozart (or whoever the original
composer may have been).
