The story of K 297b, the Eb sinfonia concertante is convoluted.
Robert Levin and Daniel Leeson in 1976/7 made a heroic study of the
work.(Pendragon Press, if memory serves).I had said Rosen in an
earlier letter, but it is Robert Levin. It is, first of all, in the
Anhang (Appendix) of the Kochel catalog and is not accepted by all as
in the master's hand. It may be someone else's work. The tutti
sections vary dramatically from what is accepted as Mozartean, the
solo sections are more consistent with the accepted oeuvre in the
concerto literature of Mozart. Maybe the solo parts are in Mozart's
hand and everything else is spurious. In Mozart's "original" work,
the flute took the solo line, with bassoon, oboe, french horn and
orchestra.
The clarinet in all of this is a reworked flute line, done some time
after 1778, but again, with no autograph, who knows? I like it
better with the clarinet (obvious buias aside), it makes more sense
with clarinet given the other "reedy" winds in the solo sections and
the blend of the french horn.

There is, to my knowledge, no autograph score. It is listed as K.
Anhang 9. Or more cumbersome, KAnhang C 14.01.

A reconstruction by Levin for flute, oboe, horn, bassoon and
orchestra exists on Philips LP, 411 134-1.
I am sure that this is also on CD in the 1991 Festschrift, every
note by Mozart Philips collection. Please let me know if I can
provide more info, or ask Dan Leeson himself!! It is still a
beautiful work, apocryphal or not, and should be played more. I have
done it locally.
