Phil: I have always heard never use Vasoline on my corks. A repairman told
me once that the petroleum in the Vasoline is not absorbed by the corks.
Therefore it just all collects on the tenon and does no good. Plus, once
it has collected on the tenon, it begins to react with the cork, breaking
down its water repellent capacities and thus shortening the corks life. I
do not know if this is trye or not but.. I usually stay away from using
Vasoline on my corks.
