This is something I have had sitting around for a few years, and I have
been saving it for a particularly slow time. It is a "recipe" for a
"reed-preservative". I have never tried it. The person who gave it to
me swears that it makes his reeds perfect and magical. Just thought you
might enjoy it. If anyone tries it, let me know.

I want to add, before I send this, that I am partly amused, and partly
disturbed by this whole thing. What bothers me is that somebody sat
around cutting up toothbrushes and dissolving them in acetone. That they
somehow came to the conclusion that it works better if you cut off the
bristles. Scary.

Dr. Dallas's Magical Reed Preservative

1 pyco-pay toothbrush ( I do not know if another brand will substitute)
cut off the bristle end
dissolve in 1 pint acetone.

Use a glass jar and it will take a day or two to dissolve.

To "treat" reeds:

dip them in the solution (the entire reed) and let dry overnight
The acetone evaporates leaving the plastic in the reed.

Happy reed preserving.
