I haven't tried this out as cork grease, but you can make a greasy
stuff of any desired hardness (for example, about like Chapstick)
by melting together the appropriate proportions of paraffin wax
and petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Be careful not to set it on fire;
melting it with a hot water bath is safest. This stuff originated
from ancient plants, not animals, as far as I know (not very far),
and in any case is pretty mineral-like by now.
