steve,
althought i don't know why, it seems that some mouthpieces play
olivieri's better and some do vandoren's better. for example, pyne
mouthpieces are well-known for being excellent with olivieri's while my
own mouthpiece, by jim kanter (in los angeles) chirps like yours does
with olivieri's. i think it has to do with the cut of the olivieri and
possibly with the density of the cane - olivieri's are less dense than
vandorens. olivieri used to make two types: a reguar and a so-called
"tempered". have you tried both? if you are d;isgusted with vandorens you
can always try glotin or various others. (incidentally, my computer is
acting up, which is why some misspellings in this message have not been
corrected - sorry about that). in fact, if you have ever tried regular
vandoren's, some mouthpieces play the v-12 better than the regular, and
vice versa. have you noticed that? i sure did. that's why i am also
playing v-12's. however, i tried a hite mouthpiece which i liked very
much and it worked much better with with regular vandorens. go figure...
