I learned an excellent trick for tuning this note (and the c just above)
from the bass clarinetist of the Vancouver Symphony, which is to use the
third side key (counting up from the bottom) (ie the side b flat key),
pressing it with the right thumb. Yes, this means bringing the thumb up out
of its usual position, it may not be practical if you're not using the
floor peg, and the shape or size of your hand may make it impossible. But
if it works for you I highly recommend it. (I've even used it once or twice
on b-flat, resting the bell temporarily on my knee...)
