Stoltzman records a lot,so it's only
natural that you might greatly prefer one performance over another, but for
those who are curious, you should listen to his Weber Quintet and Ingolf
Dahl
Trio on RCA if it's still available. To me, this is representative of his
very best playing.

Mr. Williams took the words out of my wouth by mentioning this recording.
I am not a member of the Stoltzman fan club, meaning I evaluate each thing
I hear from him on its own merits or lack thereof. This recording, though,
is one of the most beautiful recordings of chamber music, with or without
clarinet, that I have ever heard. Stoltzman does some things on this
recording that are simply gorgeous, Particularly in the Dahl, one of the
most beautiful and neglected pieces of chamber music that includes the
clarinet.
This recording is long out of print. Interestingly, I met Fred Sherry
('cellist with Tashi at the time) once and mentioned how much I loved this
particular record. He thanked me and mentioned that it must have been one
of the only 2 or 3 that they sold (apparently he didn't receive too many
royalty checks for this one). But if you're lucky you can scour up a copy
at a used lp store. I've seen it a few times over the years and it's well
worth the search. Thanks for reminding me, Mr. Williams!
