Last winter I attended a concert at the Memorial Union Theatre in Madison
Wisconsin featuring Stolzman and pianistLukas Foss - "The American
COnnection." It was excellent.
The wroks for clarinet that they performed (if I remember correctly) were as
follows:
Gershwin THree Preludes
Ives In the Morning
Serenity
Reich New York Counterpoint
Foss Fantasy ROndo (This one may havebeen piano - I'm not sure)
Hindemith Kleines rondo,gemachlich from Sonato for Clarinet and Piano
Bernstein Sonata for clarinet and piano

I'm bringing this up now because I am planning a program for a local music
club here in Beloit, WI on Feb 14 and they have asked me to play 3 or 4
works by American composers. As a young musician, my repertoire isn't yet
very large, and I'm at a loss as to what to prepare. TIme is short, and I'm
wondering if some of you out there in clarinetland have some suggestions.
I'mlooking for works that would be enjoyable to play and listen to, but that
might be simple enough that I could prepare. I would rather play well than
play something unprepared, as I've seen many other young musicians do. If
any of you have played something in this category and enjoyed it,please let
me know. Are any of the above selctions possible too?
