There has been some very informative discussion of bass clarinets on the
list lately and, as someone who is about to try to take the plunge into
the higher level of instrument, as far as the bass is concerned, I was
interested in the discussion about the history of the Selmer 33. If I
understand part of the debate correctly, the instrument, although not the
model number, changed in sonically important ways in 1983. Is there any
way of distinguishing a pre-1983 instrument besides playing it? Can
anyone help with diagbistic features such as serial numbers? I am about
to look at a used instrument and could use any advice.
