For the past two years, I've been using an Electro Voice N/D 308B on my
clarinet and it has provided the most natural sounding recordings I've yet to
hear from anything in the sub $1000 price range.

I aim the mic. at the center tenon and place it about 12 - 14" away. This
microphone has also given me outstanding results in live applications. At
about $150, it is a real bargain.
