Dear Dan Leeson,
Bravo. Thank you for articulatin well and cogently my arguments in
favor of Richard
Stoltzman's playing. He is a sensitive, passionate, dedicated
professional who has
greatly enhanced our instrument's popularity. His Brahms Quintet with
the Cleveland
Quartet, his Weber Quintet, his two versions of the Copeland concerto
underscore
his talents, expressivity and delicate use of vibrato.Clarinet
purists may not favor him,
but they miss the quintessential point.
The point is this: In essence, Dick Stoltzman makes music. Using
the clarinet as his mouthpiece, (no pun intended), he has ennobled
the
art of clarinetistry. As Schubert said, "An die Musik." I need say no
more.
