I don't know whether the hard surface of cork pads makes a perceptible
difference, over softer pads, in the acoustics of an instrument. But I doubt
that it would be perceptible if only one of the pads were cork. And the
speaker hole is the smallest of all.
Someone might try an experiment, with holes that are normally covered by
the flesh of the fingers: stick some cork to the fingers, and see whether
that makes a perceptible difference. Maybe have a couple of "blind" judges
try to tell.
