I am a physician and serious amateur clarinetist. I have played for
34 years, a Buffet R-13, with a vandoren 4 reed and Borbeck
mouthpiece. I have heard them all, and, with the exception of Harold
Wright and Charlie Neidich, Richard Stoltzman is the most prominent
and elegant clarinetist of this generation. Dick has taken the
clarinet and given it musical meaning and beauty. His "Hark!" CD and
the ashmore four seasons with guildhall string ensemble are
masterworks. He uses vibrato, to be sure, but thoughtfully and, with
a master plan. is two recordings of the Copeland Concerto epitomize
aaron copeland's jazz idioms. Dick, you're great.
