I recently obtained a new Selmer 10R with the most [to me] unusual yellow
(colored) pads. The speaker key is corked. This set me to thinking about
different pads and, also, about the corking/padding of the speaker key.
In all of my reading, I have found precious little discussion of this. I
have also acquired an early 70's B&W 1010 with different-looking brown
pads (not brown from age) each with a small, darker, identical marking on
them. I would be curious to know opinions/knowledge about the use of
different pad materials and also about the value of corking a speaker
key.
