Happy New Year to the rest of Klarinet!
Ishould start by introducing myself - my name is MArlys Fassett and I'm a
junior in high school in southern Wisconsin.(I post on my mother's address.)
Amongst other interests, I enjoy playing the clarinet. I'm a member of the
Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, based in Madison,WI and take pricate
lessons with James Smith at the UW-Madison. I have posted previously without
identifying myself, and apologize for it. I enjoy this list immensely.
After hearing horror stories about the ill-manners of internet groups, this
list's optimism and diversity is refreshing.
I am posting now to ask for advice on a tour I will be making next summer.
I have a friend who is currently living in Salamanca, Spain with her
parents, stringed instrument repairmen. (Some of might know them - they are
quite well known here in WI and spent some time in Cremona, ITALY a few
years ago. Ralph Rabin and Carol Willett.) My friend speaks Spanish and
Italian and I speak French. Since we're both confident about speaking, we
plan to just go wherever the mood takes us. I would, however, like some
advice/ and or invitations from European members of this list on places that
we should visit. We are planning to be touring During the bulk of June and
part of July. Are there any special events going on? I know of the
clarinetfest in Paris, and plan to be there. Are there ways to tour the
clarinet and reed making factories? (Buffett, Selmer, LeBlanc, etc?)
Whoops! I forgot to mention that we hope to travel mostly in Spain and
France. Are there any hidden treasures that any of you know about that we
should visit? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Marlys Fassett
