I currently have two preoccupations in my playing I would like to put
before this group because I need help with them. Actually, the first
topic comes from much recent discussion about mouthpieces. Both are
fundamental queries and I apologize to those of you who will find them
repetitive.
1. Why would a player acquire a commerical mouthpiece and have it
refaced? I read here not long ago that someone purchased a
presumably new 5RV Lyre and
had it refaced.
2. I am experiencing a breakdown in reed performance in all [five]
reeds I am
currently using. After 2--5 minutes into playing, I cannot
articulate [from silence] without an hesitation or "delay" in
speaking. Thereafter, the voice of the reed (which began OK)
is choaked and wooley. Unplayable.
I am currently reviewing the archives. I'm in 1994 when the hot topic was
"blowout".
