Well, Finale gets rave reviews when it comes to music notation software, but
it's kind of expensive. You may also want to check out its little
brother--Allegro (I think that's the name...)--less expensive, but
apparently handles the tasks most people want to perform.

I stumbled on an inexpensive notation/sequencing program--Dr. T's Quickscore
Elite--and have been using it for the past few weeks. I'm just starting to
work with MIDI (was lucky enough to get a MIDI keyboard from Santa this
year), and didn't want to invest a lot of $$ until I knew a little more
about what I was doing. Dr. T's was only about $50. Although I'll probably
move to something more robust in a year or so, this is doing the job for me
right now.

Good luck!
