Subj: Clarinet Fingering Chart

Greetings,
I'm a Klarinet-listserver newcomer. I've just put together a collection
of fingering charts for the clarinet. To my knowlege, there is no other
such collection available online. As I'm just attempting to learn clarinet
(I'm really a clawhammer banjo player, but I am tring to learn Klezmer
Klarinet) I'd be interested in your comments.

Something that really puzzles me: Can most clarinet players sight read
music written in concert pitch as easily as music written 'clarinet' pitch?
I understand there is a history as to why b-flat clarinets are what they
are, but it seems strange that modern students aren't just taught the
concert pitch names for each fingerings. It would make things much
simpler.

Any advice as to which 'system' I should memorize first? Please try hard
to avoid telling me to learn to play by ear and not from music. Well, go
ahead and say it, but I have enough trouble doing that on banjo! Guess I'm
musically challenged :-). If it is relevant, I have no ambition to play
classical music (I'm just a listener), just klezmer.

Thanks for any advice, and I hope you like the fingering charts.
