Subj: Dual personalities - the elusive "C" clarinet

Would anyone out there know if there is more than one "size" of "C"
clarinet. Some time ago, a repairman showed me an old Buffet clarinet
which was smaller than an Eb. I have also heard that a "C' clarinet is
similar in size to a Bb (which would seem to make sense). Since they are
so rare, what's the story on the elusive "C"?
