Yes indeed, Paul Meyer is French. At my invitation he performed
during ClarinetFest 1990 at Laval University, Quebec City. Naturally I had
his biography printed in the programme. The information contained therein
was sent to me by his sponsors: Vandoren, Paris.

This young French musician has won a First Prize in clarinet in
1982, under Guy Deplus and in chamber music under Maurice Bourgue at the
Concervatoire natinal sup@-----. In 1985, he studied
with Rudolf Stadler at the Musikhochschule in Basel and with Benny Goodman
in New York. He won many prizes in internatinal compositions between 1982
and 1985, particularly a 2nd Prize at the Tournoi international des jeunes
musiciens, a 3rd Prize at the Concours international de la Guilde de Paris,
a 1st Prize at the International Competition of Toulon. Leading his career
in France, Europe and the U.S.A., Mr. Meyer is currently first chair at the
Op@-----. In 1989, h=
e
played as soloist with the orchestras of Lyon, Strasbourg, Geneva,
Lausanne, Dortmund, Baltimore, Leipzig, and with the Radio Symphony
Orchestra in Vienna. He also gave recitals as soloist and chamber musician
with famous artists such as Jean-Pierre Rampal, Yo Yo Ma, Michael
Rostropovitch, and the Melos Quartet. Since 1984, he has been giving
masterclasses in American universities. In 1984-85, he has been David
Weber's associate at the Julliard School of Music. The following year, he
has been invited to give the opening recital and a masterclass at the
ClarFest in Baltimore, and to adjudicate at the American National Clarinet
Competition organized by the Clarinet Magazine in Baltimore. Paul Meyer
recorded on the Erato, CBS, and Denon labels. In 1989, he recorded for
Denon the two Weber concertos with the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne.
