To the recommendations of others I will add that a very worthwhile and
challenging work is the Sonata, Opus 41, by Othmar Schoeck. It requires a
first-rate pianist. The piece is written in a polytonal style, with much
lyricism, contrapuntal complexity and rhythmic drive. The work is published
by Breitkopf.
Also, an interesting resource for the serious bass clarinetist is a
dissertation written by Albert Hunt at Juilliard, and submitted in 1986
entitled "The Bass Clarinet Index: A Selectice Annotated Bibliography of
Music Composed for the Bass Clarinet". If you contact the Juilliard Library
you can arrange to purchase a copy by sending a check. It list many works for
various combinations of instruments.
