I use a festival Buffet clarinet, and was interested in the M13 mouthpiece.
After I purchased it, I discovered very bad pitch problems. Having just
purchased the clarinet, I thought it was the instrument, and tried shorter
barrels. However, at the last minute my teacher suggested tring another
mouthpiece. With the mpiece (A Bob Scott) my pitch was better, as was my
tone. He then compared the lengths of the mouthpieces, and discovered
quite suprisingly that the M13 was about 2 mm longer than the scott and
thus the source of my pitch problems. This was an 88 profile, which I
believe is advertised to be slightly longer than the other options
available. I did however, improve my tone with this mpiece over my
previous mpiece, so probably the length is one of the only drawbacks in
my experience. However, as has been repeated many times on this group,
mpieces differ with the same model, so others may have better luck than I
did.
