Steve,

I acquired just today a list of Buffet serial numbers prior to 1928
(which is when they began a numerically ascending sequence with 1).

If your clarinet's serial number is 1I784 ("I" as in "Israel"), your
clarinet was manufactured around 1913.

If it's really 1L784 ("L" as in "Larry") then it was 1918.

I will include all the serial numbers from 1885-1927 in the January
issue of my Clarinet FAQ if time permits.
