What are some of your views on this? I know there are lots of musicians
whose
horns are kept polished and in tip-top shape constantly (This guy in the
pageant I was referring to even held his horn during rests with a cloth so
he wouldn't get any excess oil off his hands on the keys.) Anybody else
like me who likes the "broken in look?"

A local music store owner and great repairman in CT is George Theodos. He
has long since retired from active playing, but says the rule of thumb
during his busy playing days was "never trust a guy with a shiny horn. You
know they have no experience."

I am a shop-a-holic for old clarinets. I cannot resist purchasing an old
clarinet. I need a support
group for people who love the look of well-worn horn! --Bill F.
