Strasser Marigaux has been making woodwind instruments for many years.
Their english horns are generaaly judged to be on a par with Loree and
their oboes are close. As for their other horns, they are quite good but
not quite at the R-13 level. However, I have a student playing on a model
200 professional clarinet of theirs and it is excellent (I tried it out
for her). I gave dealt with one of their tenor saxes, which was
comparable to a Buffet. In short, they are usually a bargain because they
offer excelent quality at an off-brand price. For example, the clarinet
my student bought for $700 easily compares to many R-13's I have tried.
It has a relatively dark sound, unlike the Selmers or non-Opus Leblancs
at a fraction of Buffet's price. She got it because it had been sitting
on a closeout shelf for 5 years because brand-conscious, snobby Americans
wouldn't try it out. Their loss, her gain.
