Sometimes, humour is just the way a conversation goes! In "real
life", a joke may only use up a few seconds of someone's time - it's just
that on a server, there's a time delay and EVERYONE gets their crack at it!
Democracy in action!
As for the "Humour Alert!" signal - :-) - how would it work? If
there's even any HINT of humour in a posting, would we have to use it?
What about depressing postings - :-( ? Should we warn people about those,
too, so they won't get needlessly upset?!!!
If you don't have the time to waste reading a one-line "waste of
time" posting, what are you doing on a listserver?!
( Although, one advantage to putting warning signs on postings would
be that we could say things about the people who don't like them and they'd
never read them! )
