From memory SML stands for Strasser Marigaux Lemaire - I'm not
positive on the Lemaire. I have no idea when any mergers etc. took
place.

Marigaux are of course eminent oboe makers and have produced clarinets
at various times.

I bought a Marigaux "Symphonie" b flat clarinet from Vincent in the
Rue de Rome, Paris about 1988. The key work had been reshaped but was
substantially a narrow bore French boehm clarinet in the Buffet style.
At the time no A clarinet model was available which I thought was a
pity as they were an excellent and affordable instrument.

I seem to remember that SML had some financial problems in the mid to
late 80s. I don't know if they're still trading.

Dear Tom,

Strasser was making oboes back in the 60's. I know nothing of
clarinets.
