I am in the 572nd Air National Guard Band in Knoxville, TN. I will look into
this question of how to obtain recordings of USAF music. ANG bands also put
out a recording that is pretty good, and includes most of the 11 guard bands
around the country. After January 13 I should have some specific and helpful i
nformation on USAF music. Beware: due to cutbacks (cliche) in the government
and the inablility to pass budget legislation, our band and every other militar
y band has been unable to set our own budgets for 1996, nor have we had any
freedom to spend much money this past quarter due to cuts. Our tapes are
several years old, and plans for a new tape are on the back-burner. As for the
active military bands in their respective branches-all I can say is that I hope
they haven't been as hard hit as the guard bands. They should be still be reco
rding and producing. The mission of the bands is to provide support for the
military, government, and country. The tapes are to be used in this manner and
for recruiting purposes as well. Good luck, and we'll see!
-----Anyone in the East Tennessee area interested in joining the 572nd Band----
We are in desperate need of about 4 clarinetists. I am the only one
left as of Jan. 13. The pay is good, the people are nice, and travel
is spectacular. The level of playing is excellent.
