I would like some help on choosing a Mouthpiece for my R-13.
With all the different makers of Mouthpiece's, which should I look at, and
which should I stay away from?
The Mouthpiece I'm using now was supplied by Buffet, the facing is 30mm.
When compared to a chart
of mouthpieces from Vandoren, the largest one they have is 22.5mm. What
gives? Why the big difference?
I know there is a difference in the facing, but what I don't know is, how
that difference translates in tone and ease of playing. Should I go to a
small facing or a medium facing. Buffet's mouthpiece gives a good tone in
the low register, and is easy too play, but when I go above the Bb break
the tone gets thin. I was looking at the B-45 a med. facing by Vandoren
that can except reeds from 2 to 4. I'm play a #2 right now. I think I would
get a better tone in the upper register with a higher numbered reed, but
the mouthpiece won't work with anything higher then a #2.
I would like to hear what anyone has to say about this.
