INTERNATIONAL CLARINET ASSOCIATION
1996 YOUNG ARTISTS COMPETITION
Eligibility: Open to all clarinetists who shall not have reached the age of
27 years by January 1,1997.
Application: For all contestants, send materials postmarked no later than
Monday, April 1, 1996 to:

CONTEST RULES
1. Application fee: $25 U. S. (current I.C.A. members) or $35 U.S. (nonmember)
made payable to I.C.A. in U.S. currency. This fee is nonrefundable.
2. Good quality cassette tape recording containing the following repertoire
in this order:
1. Wolfgang A Mozart - Concerto in A, K.622 (mvt 1 only)
2. Charles Whittenberg - Three Pieces for Clarinet Alone, Op. 29
(mvts 1 & 2 only)(pub. McGinnis and Marx)
3. Antoni Szalowski - Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano (pub Chester)
The recording should be made on new tape on one side only with an accompanist
where appropriate. Please be aware that the quality of the recording will
influence the judges.
3. A photocopy of the contestant's driver's license, passport, or birth
certificate as proof of age.
4. A separate written statement, signed by the contestant, attesting that the
recording is the playing of the contestant.
5. A summer address and telephone number should be provided if different from
those used during the academic year
Please note that no application form is required.
JUDGING
Judging of tapes will be conducted with no knowiedge of the contestant. Do not
include any identification on the cassette or on the cassette box. There should
be no speaking on the tape such as the announcing of compositions.
Preliminary judging will be by taped audition. Semifinalists will be chosen by
committee. Letters of notification will be mailed by Monday, May 13, 1996.
Semifinal and final rounds will be held at the 1996 ClarinetFest
International at Cite Universitaire in Paris, France from July 3 to 7, with
repertoire consisting of the works listed above.
Past first-prize winners are not eligible to compete. All contestants will
accept the decision of the judges as final. The I.C.A. will provide a pianist
for all semifinalists, and all semifinalists will receive free registration
at ClarFest '95. Travel expenses will be the responsibility of the contestants.
All cassettes will become the property of I.C.A. and will not be returned
unless a stamped, addresses envelope is provided. (Use U. S. postage or an
International Postal Coupon.)
Prizes: first prize - a new clarinet, $1,000, and a possible performance at
the 1996 Paris ClarinetFest; second prize - $750; third prize - $500
