Dear Friends;
For those of you within striking distance I would like to inform
you of the 1996 Clarinet Chamberfest to be held on the University of
North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill on January 19, 20, and 21.
There will be four concerts, master classes, a clarinet choir, and
other activities as well. The performing artists will include David
Campbell from London, Freddy Arteel from Belgium, Robert Listokin from
the NC School of the Arts, Doug Miller from Appalachian State, Nathan
Williams from East Carolina University, Kelly Burke from UNC Greensboro,
and Donald Oehler from UNC Chapel Hill.
All the music performed will be chamber music, no solo recitals,
and will include the Mozart and Brahms Quintets, Schubert's Der Hirt Auf
Dem Felsen, the Kageltadt, Brhams' Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano,
the Zemlinsky Trio, Bartok's Contrasts, Glinka's Trio Pathetique, and
other selected works in chamber music. There will be many fine
assisting artists as well, including the Ciompi String Quartet.
Selected students will perform in master classes with a
professional string quartet for the Mozart Quintet and the East Wind
quintet also give a master class with selected students performing with
them. Master class performers will be selected from applications received.
I will be happy to forward a brohure to any interested party. We
feel this will be a great celebration of the clarinet in chamber music
and a chance for students to hear live many of the major chamber works in
our repertoire, all in one weekend.
Yours,
Donald L. Oehler
Professor of Music UNC
