I'm back on this listserv after about a year's hiatus, so I don't know if
mouthpieces have been discussed lately. Last year, the Vandoren B45 seemed
to be the mouthpiece of choice. Is that still the case?

Looking at a Vandoren brochure, I find they make something like 22
different mouthpieces for Bb clarinet alone. They differ mainly in length
of facing and tip opening, but perhaps in other respects as well. Could
somebody tell me where to get a brief education on mouthpiece design
factors? Why are there so many types?
