Another idea on this subject has nothing to do with the reed at all, but with
the player.

I was reading the Brahms Trio for cl. cello and piano(great piece!)
with people
I had not played with in awhile. I had gone through many "changes" and
"improvements" in my playing as was a little self-conscious. Throughout the
reading
I would notice parts where everything felt great and my reed was heavenly.
However there were also times where I thought my reed was getting
waterlogged or warped.
But then.. another part would come up and it would feel different yet again.
Then it hit me that I was actually changing my embouchure with various
sections thus giving me the feeling that my reed was going wacko. Soo... I
agree that reeds change with the weather and are often not man's best friend,
but also check out more personal possiblities for some problems. The
solution might just be a mirror away.

Back to
practicing,

P.S.-I absolutely enjoy this clarinet group. It's great to be able to talk
shop and learn
tricks, and tales. Hurray for listservs!!!! (Is it obvious I just started
this computer
stuff? :-) ....see ya....)
