Are there any Shostakovich experts out there? I am writing a research
paper on Shostakovich. I am trying to approach it with a thesis
concerning the politics influence on his music. I am primarily using
the 9th and 10th symphonies, cello concerto, 5th and 8th string
quartets because they use the DSCH (D Eb C B) Dimitri SCHostakovich,
and the Stalin motive: __ __
././ ./ ././ ./
There is one other motive or character that comes into his music
all the time: C, A, E, Eb (I think are the notes) This is in the Cello
concerto a lot, the 9th symphony, 8th quartet, and I believe it is in
the 10th symphony too. Does anyone know what this is? I have books
>from the library, recordings and scores, does anyone know of any
additional sources that could be of some help?
Thanks in advance.
